Today: Join my post-debate subscriber chat
I will be answering subscriber questions about the debate and everything
Good morning, everyone. Many of you joined the Message Box community in the last several weeks. A number of you came via the recommendation of other Substackers like NextDraft, Simon Rosenberg, and Brian Tyler Cohen. Others connected with us via my friends at Crooked Media. However you got here, thank you so much for subscribing. Four years into this newsletter, I am still surprised whenever someone agrees to have my thoughts delivered to their inbox.
Tuesday night’s debate was the most significant moment of the campaign so far, and it couldn’t have gone better for Kamala Harris. I received many questions from Message Box readers about what happens next. How much will polls move? Will there be a second debate? Should there be a second debate? Can Trump recover? And what should Harris do to build on her momentum?
Long-time readers know that I hold regular Q&A sessions with paid subscribers. The next one is tomorrow morning. Starting tomorrow morning (9/12), I will pop into the chat all day to answer everyone’s questions about the debate and anything else on your mind.
I hope you will consider upgrading your subscription to participate. Either way, I hope you very much enjoyed watching Trump get the ass-whipping he so deserved.
How to get started
Get the Substack app by clicking this link or the button below. New chat threads won’t be sent sent via email, so turn on push notifications so you don’t miss conversation as it happens. You can also access chat on the web.
Open the app and tap the Chat icon. It looks like two bubbles in the bottom bar, and you’ll see a row for my chat inside.
That’s it! Jump into my thread to say hi, and if you have any issues, check out Substack’s FAQ.
Dan, the sanewashing is really vexing me. Instead of headlines blaring "TRUMP ACCUSES IMMIGRANTS, DEMS OF EATING PETS, KILLING BABIES IN UNHINGED DEBATE PERFORMANCE", we get "Who won the debate? We talked to three swing voters." (Or my favorite, and their go-to: "Harris, Trump offer very different visions of America.")
Can you help us understand why the normalization of Trump has gotten this bad? The more honest story would actually get MORE clicks. Do these people honestly still cling too some misguided idea of neutrality, nine years in? Is it the politics of the corporate bosses? Do they think they'll avoid going to jail if Trump wins by not telling it straight? It baffles me.
Thank you for all that you do!
Not sure about your message about upgrading subscription. I am paid subscriber. Does this mean I have to upgrade that to get the chats? Old girl here...
