I am continually astonished by the legacy media. We all saw bat shit crazy #DirtyOldMan decompensate on the world stage yesterday and the headlines today ... act like this is normal. WTAF.

I agree with Dan that this probably not the end of the story but as of now Trump looks totally feckless. Went from threatening an invasion of a NATO ally, breaking up the NATO alliance, starting a global trade war to….a framework agreement to get…nothing. And he’s damaged the US’s standing in the world with strategic & trade partners who aren’t just going to forget about this and move on. Incredible, possibly irreparable reputational damage for nothing

"With this president, in this media environment, we are constantly being waterboarded with a nonstop onslaught of outrages and absurdities."

Dan,

This is the most accurate description of how this January, and the entire past year of Trump 2.0 feels like. When will the torture end?!

Instead of promoting a message of how pursuing Greenland distracts Trump from focusing on what he promised to do, which is kind of benign, how I wish the Dems could run on Trump is batshit crazy and dangerous and completely unfit to be POTUS. That would take guts and be daring

I spoke with a family member yesterday who commented on the Greenland purchase in a negative way and is a republican and I finally asked, "don't you think this guy has lost it? This is all so crazy!" and I was met with well politics is broken & both parties aren't good...blah blah blah. It's like if their side isn't good all sides are bad. I continued with well we need a government to be a country, so what do we do going forward? I fear that the problem is that Trump and this administration is ruining more than just democracy but the idea that government can be productive for Americans at all. I'm so frustrated but thankful for all the work you do to help us talk to our friends and family with different views in a way that doesn't add gasoline to the fire. Ads are fine with me!

And yet… voters still trust Republicans more on the economy and on foreign policy. Yes, that reflects imperfections in the American electorate and also successful marketing/branding by Republicans but can’t Democrats maybe just maybe capitalize on the reality of the situation and the actual facts and do some effective messaging around all this? (and whatever Trump is desperately hiding regarding Epstein. 🤯 )

I tell myself most of this is the Dems currently lack a leader and therefore a platform to coalesce around.

Trump analysis is much more complicated than it needs to be. He’s a one note song. Watch interviews with him from the ‘70’s. It’s the same shtick. Insults. Storming Out. Outrageous demands then settling on something and claiming victory.

Why people can’t see what this guy is a total zero is confounding. Why people can’t accept that there’s no bottom is shocking.

Carney’s speech at Davos will go down as one of the greatest in our lifetime. It was about as clear eyed and compelling as they come. I believe it was a major factor in Trumps failure to extort anything of benefit to the US. It is also just the beginning of the world’s response to having an orange Kim Jon Un running the US.

We absolutely need to hammer the Greenland issue going forward. But we also need to hammer the fecklessness of every GOP (and dem) member of congress who enables an unstable, sundowning lunatic who is leading us to ruin. Their hair should be on fire. And every member who sits by and does nothing is unfit for the job to which they were elected.

There was a Reuters article saying the tech bros want Greenland to create a freedom city. That says it all and the constituency that wants it.

I am a no ads guy. That is why I mostly watched pbs before the internet. I love streaming because most provide a no ads option at an additional cost. I don’t do podcasts because of the ads business model. I tried the no ads premium on Youtube. I watch Pod Save America and The Bulwark because I respect you guys. I mute during those ads. I will stay with you for a while because I respect you. If the ads get too much or produce sound I am gone. Thanks.

The ‘sanewashing’ of that speech by a majority of the US media is disgraceful.

His ‘I could do it if I want to, but…’ was specifically said for the media to pump out the exact headlines that we got while skipping over the batshit crazy that was the rest of his speech.

Democrats need to find a message that can connect Greenland, Venezuela, his unaccountable violent group of ICE thugs, and the overall lawlessness and corruption of his admin that elected republicans obviously don’t care about making things better for Americans.

Why is there an ad in a post I have a paid subscription to?

Solution: Rockall. It is an island, part of the UK, uninhabited, and is often covered with snow and ice. I'm sure the Brits could be convinced to rename it "Greenland," and let Trump have it to play with, at least for a while, and he won't know the difference.
