The republican party owns most entities that make up cable news, radio, social media and the print media, some of which are out and out fascist and the other half is scared to death of being labeled liberal. These assholes are never going to help or in any way benefit the Democratic party because as criminal associates of the Republicans, there is no profit, $$$$$$, for them to do so.

A CNN panel of “political reporters” recently said if any other presidential candidates spouse was missing from the campaign trail it would be a huge story but “because it’s Trump he gets away with it” and it made me want to rip my eye brows out.

I'm not certain there's any point in having one or more debates with Trump; it's not as if we're going to learn anything new. But, on the other hand, I do think that people need to see and hear him speak as opposed to Biden. With no teleprompter, Trump will become unhinged. He'll begin a debate okay but then sink quickly. He cannot speak in complete sentences, he has no policy positions (except tax cuts for the wealthy), he misspeaks and slurs his words, and he'll use insults and probably make fun of Biden's stutter. Trump can't help himself; his personality overwhelms him. Personally, I don't think his campaign will let him debate.

Corporate media (not counting overtly right wing outlets like Fox and WSJ) desperately wants a traditional horse race because they think that’ll make the most money. What we have is a competent incumbent running against a pure lunatic who shouldn’t be anywhere near power. To cover the election responsibility is to admit that truth and for whatever reason they see that as an uninteresting story. There isn’t much they can do to drag down Biden so they have to normalize Trump to make the election appear “competitive.”

In 2016 the news media gave us “all Trump, all the time”. His rallies were broadcast start to finish, his every outrageous tweet made the news, his every utterance made the news. He was elected instead of his smart, responsible, experienced and honest (for a politician) opponent.

We got less Trump in 2020 and Biden won. But importantly, Democrats heard the crazy stuff (through forums such as this, Crooked Media and countless other ways). It drove us out in huge numbers.

We can’t reform the media in the next six months and cussing media executives is useful, possibly, for personal emotional therapy, but when was the last time you were motivated because someone cursed at you?

Let’s each of us take it on to repeat 2020. But more so. Let’s make sure each of us spreads the word, anyway we can about the Trump craziness the MSM won’t touch. And let’s focus intently on getting 10% more voters out than four years ago. Let’s focus on the ten likeliest swing states, plus key senate races.

Dan, you have clearly, accurately, and forcefully described the problem many times (here, in your latest book, and elsewhere), but of course you're considered "biased" in our no-facts-please era. I would suggest that EDITORS of important publications write an open letter to the media, signed by other editors, laying out these concerns... but of course they're the ones making the editorial decisions that keep Trump's very public craziness from the public. Who has the stature and network to put out an open letter to pressure the MSM about their failure to communicate essential information? Academic journalists? Nobel Laureates? Former Presidents?? I guess the answer is, as always: It's up to us to share TFG's dangerous and crazy speech with our own networks.

When his NY trial begins they will cover Trumps outbursts on the oourt house steps. But the story they should lead with is that anyone else doing that would be subject to defaming and threatening the judge and jury within earshot of them.

I think that you addressed this on Pollercoaster, but the Overton Window with regard to Trump insanity is that even if they did cover the nutjob stuff, people would accept that s normal. After a visit with my family this last week, I know that people perfectly capable of reason have decided to accept facts not in evidence. My sister told me that they are paying "illegals" $5000 and giving them free healthcare and schooling in California - she is citing a nutjob politician from Arizona as if this were true. My sister has worked in government, but she started her rightward tilt about 25 years ago, and I don't know how she can take as fact so much falsehood. It's frightening to me.

We talk about "Behind The Scenes" but what we should be talking about are individual names of those who are challenging our way of existence.

Let's try an experiment together, this is just dawning on me:

If we agree that Corporations Are Not People - that Citizens United was a key decision that compromised our entire government - we should not refer to corporations like we do people.

Corporations are businesses made up of people.

It's people. Not a big shiny logo that's easy to remember, it's messy people who don't want to be called out.

For example, instead of talking about CNN, we could be focusing attention on persons like Bill Kennard (Chairman) and John Stankey (CEO) of AT&T, the actual people who are driving CNN.

Hey, Bill and John: Fuck You. Hope we meet in person someday. Larry Fink, you too. You're just people and you are not doing good things.

Would someone in office or with a (D) in their title please, please just hammer on this in front of cameras:

Where's Melania?

Repeat. That's it, just Where's Melania. Don't let it go, keep asking. Saddle Fat Donny with his own wife.

In Other News:

Palestine: apparently we're all just waiting for Bibi to do something. Or not. Whatever, we're just in a hold until... what, exactly? Oh, until current land gains are solidified. Right.

Ukraine: I can't even. The EU has proposed a 100B Euro fund for Ukrainian munitions since no-one can count on the US. That really sucks.

Last time Trump went on Hewitt's stupid show in December (hughhewitt.com/former-president-donald-trump-on-president-biden-support-for-israel-the-war-in-ukraine-campaign-2024-and-what-a-second-trump-term-would-look-like) he claimed he had a secret deal with Xi for China to stop producing fentanyl that Biden squashed when he was inaugurated. This was at least the third time the fat bastard had said something like this publicly:

Trump's been saying this over and over again and it's been flying under the radar, even with right wing media who you think would be pretty excited to attack Biden with a fake angle on a real issue that's been killing a lot of people under both of their administrations. It's just as legitimately frustrating to see no mainstream media outlets pick this up and dig into why Trump is saying this and to see to it that, if not Trump himself, then someone who acts as his surrogate will at least attempt to address it so this insanity can finally get the something resembling scrutiny.

I think this article from WaPo is a lot better than the standard on Trump reporting. They highlight how he took his stance based on political reasons, and how he shifts with the wind.

Dan,

Slightly off-topic, but relevant. What exactly do the results of the ballot measures in Wisconsin last week mean? Maybe the media should answer that instead of normalizing Trump!!
