Yes! I am a NJ Dem and he needs to go. Now. Just a minute ago, Governor Phil Murphy (a Democrat) called for his resignation. We can’t be hypocrites.

As a NJ democrat, I’d urge all of my fellow state residents to contact the senator’s office and urge him to resign. I just did

"Hell yes" to all of this, Dan.

Menendez needs to go for all those reasons and more. I mean, it's freakin' New Jersey. To people who are worried Menendez is the only one for that seat - you're tellin' me the NJ Dems don't have someone who would be a better Senator, with fewer issues? AYFKM? GTFOOHWTBS.

Also, as Matthew Gertz over at MMFA just noted on Bluesky:

:"~9 hours from "senior Democratic senator was indicted" to "the state's Democratic governor and Democratic heads of both houses of the state legislature call for him to step down."

Yep - then again, he never should’ve stood for reelection because his history big corruption is long and deep.

How can we, as Democrats, NOT call for his resignation, regardless of how it lands politically? It’s the right thing to do.

Andy Cliver's avatar

We should also be calling on Cory Booker to urge resignation. He supported Menendez in his re-election in 2016 despite the first case. That can’t happen again

Dozens of NJ Dems have called for Menendez to resign. And crickets from Booker as of this morning. Unacceptable.

Andy Cliver's avatar

I emailed him last night and will be calling on Monday. It’s cowardly and unfortunately not surprising that he hasn’t spoken up.

And just did a search in the news archives and Booker called for Franken’s resignation in December 2017. He should be speaking up about this. Again, unacceptable.

Lisa's avatar

Agree. I’m doing the same.

If Al Franken had to resign, then Bob Menendez should resign. This is not his first offense.

Yes--Franken was run off in some ways because of the politics more than the evidence. But --everyone accepted that as right. So--how or why could anything about Menendez' situation be worth a moment's patience?

Let’s remember what Democrats did when the despicable Roy Moore ran against Doug Jones in Alabama. Democrats not only won that election, we beat every other Republican running in 2018 over the head with the issue. The GOP will certainly use that same tactic.

It’s wonderful when ethical demands and practical politics converge. I hope Schumer and Biden add to the chorus demanding Menendez’s resignation.

I made a painting then that said Alabama Pardons A Turkey.

This is a very good point!!!!

Absolutely. How do you spin gold bars and cash stuffed in his jacket pockets? I’m glad

Murphy came out so quickly and I hope other top Dems do too. They totally lose the high ground if they don’t. You can’t criticize Trump and Thomas and ignore this clown show in their own house.

Menendez has been a stain on the party for years. Schumer’s mealy mouthed statement is disappointing as hell. Considering they kicked out Al Franken for much less this shouldn’t even be a question.

Rebecca Spence's avatar

Another a Jersey girl here with another vote for resignation. Great piece. I hope Dems will speak up.

If anyone has a Dem Senator or Congressman, call them right now and tell them to publicly and unequivocally demand that Menendez resign.

Tell your friends to do the same.

Philosophy of A Mind's avatar

Of course! We must stand up to all corruption. R’s do not have a lock on it!

Jason's avatar

I’ll call my Dem senators on Monday.

William Cunninghame's avatar

I agree, Senator Menendez needs to resign. I just wrote to my Democratic Senators stating as much.

When i lived in NJ in the 1990s, he was a hindrance but he somehow escaped. Please make him go.
