Apologies for all the typos etc. In my sleep addled state, the wrong version got sent out.

Dude, you've been working like a crazy person. Cut yourself some slack.

We can figure it out. And heck, it's worth reading twice.

You're just showing us you are indeed human, Dan. Here's hoping you get some rest and THANK YOU for all you at Crooked do!

I thought it was a test to see who is actually reading all the way through. I came here for "Insert Second Quote"

That’s what I thought, sleepyhead.

Please correct and resend so I can share

Resending would be a bad idea; he'd get unsubscribes and possibly even Spam reports from people who'd already read the email and didn't understand why they were getting it again. You can always share using the Share button at the top of every post, or just by copying the URL from the address bar.

You can either get it to us fast, or you can get it to us perfect. I think most of us would rather puzzle out a few snags rather than get your opinion two days later. 💕

I'm a 72 year old retiree who's lived her entire life dealing with the systemic sexual discrimination and misogyny in the US. It is shocking, but not surprising, how the Republican Party lead by Trump and Vance have now made it very obvious that they believe women are simply brood stock, shouldn't be allowed personal freedoms, while death and serious complications during pregnancy are simply collateral damage. JD Vance said that professors are evil so, as a retired professor I'm evil. I left an abusive marriage which I should have stayed in for the sake of our daughter who's had to deal with PTSD because of the abuse. Note that Vance hasn't said anything about the violence of abuse or how abusive men are the problem. I'm now a single cat lady so I'm part of the group that's been ruining the US. And, since I'm a postmenopausal women whose 26 year old daughter has not yet had children with her finance, I'm worthless. I don't think that I'm alone in thinking that women will bring Trump down in November.

Right with you, sister! It makes my blood boil that my daughter, at 33, lives in a country with fewer reproductive rights than her grandmother did when she was 33! I guess I had the "privilege" of living my entire reproductive life within the Roe years.

In addition to the sheer joy and competency of Kamala Harris, I appreciate the non-toxic masculinity modeled by Tim Walz and Doug Emhoff. We need more of this.

Heads up Dan — you’ve got a placeholder “INSERT SECOND QUOTE” in here. Nice job getting this up so fast!

So well written I got to read it twice!

It's Deja "View!"

Yeah, she's so shouty.

But seriously, Dan and the rest of the Crooked gang are probably running on fumes at this point. Still a great essay.

The editing here is the written embodiment of "Dan is so damn tired".

Get some sleep, Dan - we all have a lot of work to do. :-)

The messaging and orchestration of the Kamala campaign has been perfect. It has hit the moment and energized a nation that needed a reminder of what “being American” should and can mean.

“Kamala Harris for the People”. Beautiful. She is, to my ear and 82-year old mind, the most compelling voice in American politics since JFK. With the chops and simple speaking style to make us compare her to FDR. Getting her in office is hugely problematic.

Lots of formatting boo boos here, FYI. Great insight, though.

Dan, Helluva job all week. Thanks. First time in twenty years i shunned msnbc and am so much the better off for it. The message box and other credible outlets were more than enough information for me.

Last night’s speech was amazing. I came away from it with a clear idea of what her path forward would look like. Now LFG!

Do you think the Democrats made a mistake not having a Palestinian speaker. Why do we have to be so stubborn and stupid. What was so wrong about giving a voice to a huge issue. Other than that huge elephant in the room I have hope.

Make your substack people tell you why the Convention did it. After I asked, one of mine did.

Great job throughout the week, Dan. I have seen conventions since 1968, and I enjoyed this one tremendously for a couple of reasons. One, the Democratic Party actually listened and changed candidates (okay, so I know that was a series of independent decisions initiated by Biden’s magnificent actions). Two, we were ushered through the week by Crooked Media and The Message Box. Again, great job.

Inser second quote, Dan. Also, it seems you duplicated several paragraphs and images. I guess it was a late night.

Yeah, I noticed that, too--it actually looks like most of the essay was duplicated after the first instance of "...hell of a start." Otherwise, Dan wrote a hell of a great article. 👏🏼 👍🏼

I'd like to hear a little more about what you or pollsters (or those who answer polls) mean when they say "tear down the system".

One thing that struck me – curious if others noted: The interviews / speeches that Harris has been criticized for in the past (Lester Holt, 2019-20 campaign) were moments when she was trying to be someone other than her true self (aligned with Biden as VP, as far to the left as her primary opponents etc.). Seems to me that unlike Trump, she has difficulty being less than genuine. This is hugely admirable to me.

The current campaign has been largely Harris being Harris and I think when she does this – as she will more and more during the next 80ish days – she knocks it out of the park – which feeds Dan’s thesis of people wanting CHANGE…she is offering us change, genuine / authentic change and it comes across that way!

The difference in viewpoint between someone actually engaged in combat and those in strategic control is always a vast gulf. Right or wrong that is always the case.

The fact is, our values do not include many of the things Israel is doing, which tells me we’re sticking by Israel for a reason not apparent to any of us.

Whether that reason is good or bad will probably be something the next generation decides.

I've watched these things since 1964, and I've never seen such honest excitement at a convention as I've seen this week. After years of being woke, Democrats finally woke up!
