I finally just subscribed, inspired by the incredible speed with which you put this message together and sent out these grounding calls to action. Rest in peace Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a truly amazing American whose life was a road map for the fight for the future. We must embody her compassion, grit, and relentless drive more than ever.
Thank you Dan. I needed this. So much grief and hideous actions in the past 4 years. I am heartbroken, tired, and determined. We must take back the Senate.
My heart is so heavy. This year has been so challenging for people who care about humans besides themselves. A giant is gone, and we are so terrified about what comes next that we don’t have the time to celebrate this exceptional person and everything she did. Thank you for putting logical ideas into my mind for tomorrow; tonight I can only donate $ and wallow a bit in my anxiety and sadness.
I knew you'd be here in my morning mail. Thanks for the inspiration and retweets in the name of Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Happy new year and shalom, baby. Let's dig down deep in her memory and do this.
One thing I should mention, if Mark Kelly wins, he actually gets sworn in much earlier (11/30) than everyone else, which means the GOP loses a vote in a lame duck session, McSally was appointed in November after Jon Kyl resigned his appointment to the McCain seat so that he could go back to lobbying.
I'm gutted. I'm just gutted. I'm just sitting here crying. I didn't even cry when Trump was elected. This feels catastrophic. This feels insurmountable. How can we fight, when the chances are so slim and impossible?
Thanks, Dan. All great points. I'm taking solace in the fact that the fight has already begun. We are not letting this BS happen. Too much is at stake.
Can the dems block the nomination by keeping the Senate Judiciary Committee from having a quorum to pass the nomination on to the full senate? Because their quorum rules say they need 9 members including 2 from the minority to conduct business...
If you are able to, can you please please convey to the Biden camp that they should NOT run away from this issue at all. I truly believe if he embraces this issues and fights like hell even if there’s not much he can do, he will bring out the progressives and maintain his edge with Trump. We cannot shy away from this fight even if we may lose this battle because ultimately we have the chance to win the war by taking back the senate and having Biden as president!!
Dan, I saw one commenter on Twitter say that the McConnell Principle doesn't apply because it's only applicable to when the president and the Senate majority are different parties. Can you please comment on that? Thank you.
This was the only thing I could bring myself to read last night when I found out. I couldn’t look at social media or any other email. Thank you for your profound insight and practical analysis. Let’s fight this.
Thanks for your incredibly "Quick," articulate and persuasive "Thoughts." Should McConnell succeed in ramming through a replacement for RGB, Democrats MUST be prepared to expand the Court as you advocated in Chapter 12 of your book, Un-Trumping America. Court expansion has been a passion of mine which has now been magnified by the tragic death of RGB. I would be interested in your thoughts (or your readers' thoughts) on my Court expansion plan set forth in a draft paper I have prepared on this topic:
Re #2, is it possible an outpouring of democratic fury over republican hypocrisy, while satisfying, won’t actually work and might backfire? Since when did McConnell, other Republican senators, or Republican voters feel shame at their hypocrisy? Not in this century. And they definitely won’t be swayed to change course because Democrats are mad. Democratic anger is their crack.
It's a fair question. We only need 4 GOP senators to stop them. We have 1 (Murkowksi) and some others in really tough political positions. I don't think we can avoid democratic anger over this and my hope is that we can channel in the most strategic way possible

YES WE CAN.
I just wanted to say thank you. I appreciate all the work you and crooked media do; this newsletter of yours is particularly helpful. So informative.

This lifted me up just when I needed it. Thank you. Time to fight.

Dan, is it true that even if Trump loses, the GOP can fill the vacancy in the months before Biden’s inauguration? If so, what can the Democrats do?
Yes, but if that were to happen, Democrats (if they had the senate) could add 2-4 justices in January

Plenty to hope for. Dems being able to add more justices is good news. In a just world, Garland would finally get his seat...

Thanks for replying. I'm a loyal Pod Save American listener. Keep up the good work.
I hope the anger can be channeled. It seems to be inspiring donations at least.
