I love the detail in the Impact Research piece, but I feel like the clock is running out on persuading people with a lot of details. Let’s just simplify the message to, “Pay your bills, Kevin.”
About half the businesses I go in have a TV on, streaming Fox or CNN. Very few people bother to watch unless something compelling has happened. I wonder how this is factored into these surveys, if at all. And does it matter? The NPR and Crooked Media pods reach more people than Fox and CNN combined. But surely, all these outlets are preaching to their choirs, right? I think only Crooked — of those I mentioned — makes a difference because they work so hard to activate voters. To vote and to activate others.
Texan here. That Way to Win report stings. I've never seen a more active, organized GOTV operation than Beto's in 2022. And... Abbott ran ads attacking him daily, painting him as soft on crime and poised to seize everybody's guns. It felt like they went unanswered. Grassroots organizers like me are able to give time but not big money. It can feel disheartening to see that big TV ad spends are still so powerfully persuasive.
