Hang on a sec — did I correctly glean from the end of your piece that he made some or all of that $5B from trading ON BINANCE? if so, then I feel like the lede got seriously buried.
Should the top shareable item not be something more like: “On Monday, Trump and his family made billions by trading his scammy crypto on a platform that he corruptly spared from prosecution after it laundered money for ISIS”?
Any messaging on this should start with the fact that Trump once, quite correctly, called crypto a scam. He hasn't changed his mind, he's just worked out how to use it. Now, it's putting all his other scams in the shade.

Art of thr Deal = Art of the Scam.
Indeed, the only real use case for crypto that has emerged afaik is financial crime.
One complication is, most people have only a very hazy idea about what money actually is and how it works. Even experts disagree on this. Salient point is, istm, there are rules about real money, which crypto bypasses.
"broken, corrupt political system that he promised to change."
Dunno... This sure makes it sound like Dems are just a crooked as Trump, and I don't see how it helps us to reinforce that notion. Further, Trump isn't doing this within the bounds of the political system that existed when he was elected; he is actively, aggressively, and shamelessly smashing that system to his advantage. Seems like we might do better to say that Trump and his personal "deep state" are turning the White House into a slimy crypto shakedown scam. And when someone says that all politicians are corrupt, ask them to name the Democrats who pocketed a cool $5 billion in a single weekend.
That's a good answer if they bring up the Biden Crime Family. It might also help if we explain exactly how big a billion is: that it's a thousand million. I think a lot of people just hear "a lot of money" when you say "billion" and they don't realize how outrageous this is. They can imagine having a million maybe, but not five thousand million.
The other confusing thing about this is that according to the Guardian, Trump and his sons can't actually sell their crypto coins. But the value of theirs went up, I guess, as a result of public trading.
Thank you for this article. I used it to help me write a letter to my Congress members today. This is remarkably old fashioned, but writing these emails regularly is one way that I don't feel so powerless. Articles like these analyze and reframe what is going on and help point me to what is truly important in the daily barrage of news. Thank you!
I am afraid that if I try to explain that the president of the united states should not be launching a cryptocurrency that anybody can buy on Coinbase, people will just say, "Why not?" Or they will say, "All politicians are corrupt. They all get in office just to make money. At least Trump is honest about it." I'm afraid they'll bring up the Biden Crime Family.
WFLI was down a little this morning already. Let's hope this remains a trend.
Many Dems voted for the genius act. Look it up. Also, you STILL think trump supporters care about inflation and corruption. They do not. They never did. They only want pain and suffering for their enemies and wealth for their leadership. Trump is doing exactly what his supporters want! Dems just won't learn this lesson.
Hi Dan, I’m a political junkie who subscribes to a number of Substacks. Since I read and try to digest ALOT, I have a suggestion. I really think this Sub has tremendous value. It would help me if you could END each post with a summary of the pointed, simplified message(s) for us to pass along to our networks.

Great point about "billion" losing meaning. I like the "thousand million" - thanks, I'll be using that for sure.
