The news is coming fast and furious about Donald Trump indictment on 37 felony counts related to retaining classified information, obstructing justice, and making false statements.
It’s amazing to me that so many Republicans, including those running against Trump for the nomination, still don’t have the courage to cut the dead weight loose. I’m not surprised, I mean, they couldn’t quit Trump even after 1/6 - but still, this is the brass ring, the golden opportunity, the chance to put the stake through the heart, and they still won’t do it. That’s the ad to run against DeSantis et al, that they don’t have the courage to do what is best for the country, even when they have been given iron clad evidence of Trump being a danger to the nation.
The GOP base lives in an alternate reality and that isn’t going to change, even after Trump. To gain and retain power they have to win these loon votes and they bet on the EC to succeed on the larger stage. It’s why they lie and spread disinformation, to fuel the media’s bothsides BS, muddy issues, and play into the cynical “they’re all the same” attitude too many voters share.
Thank you, as always, for your helpfulness. Any thoughts on the legit danger of Congressional GOP members and other loud-mouthed MAGAs who are calling for war? It’s kind of terrifying.
Thanks Dan - I was camping when this dropped and when I came back I went to Crooked Media first to see WTF was actually happening. I like my news to be real with a pinch of spice.
The only thought longer term is: People are still identifying as Republican.
The Republican brand still exists.
Why? Inertia? Clinging to something, anything of the past for comfort?
Whatever that thing is, figure it out and attack the living shit out of it.
Republicans are doing everything they can to lose, we really just need to help.
The American Soap Opera. It’s an embarrassment and has damaged this my beloved country. Thank you Dan for the helping hand in navigating the maze of information. I always trust you.
I hope and trust they have adequate security around the Miami federal bldg and other obvious sites. This time I fear a mob less than I fear a lone nut.
A mob might be hard to muster with the most violent right-wing gangs still dealing with their serious legal consequences from the insurrection.
Two more shoes to drop. Potential charges from GA (please ensnare Newt in the RICO charges), and federal charges from the 1/6 insurrection.
These are great resources. Again not sure why I am always surprised by the republican response. You are running against him, look a great opportunity to say hey I like what he did but I'm not indicted, I don't have all this baggage. Is Trumps base really that solid? Maybe I'm still 2008 2012 naive...
Dan, Thanks and please run with these thoughts if you deem them worthy:
1. Re any future plea deal with Trump. He should be urged to plead guilty to maximum number of counts, accept maximum sentences, and waive any appeal rights in exchange for suspending execution of sentence on condition that he never again run for or accept federal elected or appointed office.
2. Re alleged facts in Counts 32, 58 and 72, "boxes" were moved by aircraft to Bedminster, NJ - did US Secret Service know what was in those boxes put aboard aircraft he was travelling on?

But we do need to help. A lot.

I think the link to the Andrew Weissman article might be broken? Here's the link: How to Convict Trump https://www.nytimes.com/2023/06/09/opinion/trump-indictment-jack-smith.html?smid=nytcore-android-share
Thanks Dan for all the links. I know how I'll be spending my day! FYI link to Vox isn't working.
Thanks for this summary of excellent reads. Had to leave Twitter and HATE that I now have to dig through so much bs to find a nugget of good info.
Bookmarking this for after I get my grading done.
Fascinating how nominees are calling us a banana republic and pledging to pardon ***** if they’re elected. “Back the Blue” though, right?
